The Virginia Department of Education sent out an announcement to the recipients of the K-12 Learning Acceleration Grant about the revised deadline for spending the funds.

Revised Learning Acceleration Grant Spending Deadlines

$1,500 grant recipients – all funds must be used by December 30, 2023. Please note that the “spend a portion” by September 1st was removed
$3,000 grant recipients – all funds must be used by May 30, 2024. A portion must be spent by December 1, 2023.

All funds that do not meet the spending deadlines will have to be returned.

The Virginia Department of Education has received feedback from families that the deadline of September 1, 2023, to “spend a portion” of their student’s grant funding has been challenging and that more time will be helpful now that school is back in session.  

The VDOE wants every dollar in this grant to be spent on high quality tutoring, qualifying therapies, and assistive devices to help students accelerate their learning. In response to many families, the original requirement that you must spend a portion of the funds by September 1, 2023 has now been removed. All feedback received regarding this first of its kind grant program is appreciated, and the Department remains committed to continued program improvement.

Please review the updated guidance below:

For all $1,500 grant recipients, all funds must be used by December 30, 2023. Any remaining funds in your ClassWallet account after December 30th will have to be returned. This has not changed. Only the “spend a portion” by September 1st has been removed.  This December 30th cutoff date will remain, as this grant has a federal expiration date that we cannot move.
 
For all $3,000 grant recipients, a portion (any amount) must be spent by December 1, 2023. Those that have not spent at least $1 by December 1st will have funds returned and reallocated. For the $3,000 grant recipients, all funds must be used by May 30, 2024.
