College Board Eliminates SAT Subject Tests and Optional Essay

SAT Subject Tests Eliminated

The College Board is eliminating the optional essay section and subject tests from the SAT, announced today. The elimination of the subject tests is a process that was already underway at the College Board to “reduce and simplify demands on students”

The subject tests are ending immediately for U.S. students, but it will be available for international students until June of 2021. Students can continue to take the SAT with Essay through the June 2021 SAT administration.

“The expanded reach of AP and its widespread availability for low-income students and students of color means the Subject Tests are no longer necessary for students to show what they know. AP provides students rich and varied opportunities to showcase their knowledge and skills through college-level coursework” according to the College Board.
