New steps to accelerate COVID-19 vaccine distribution have been announced today.
- Vaccination goal – goal of vaccinating 25,000 Virginians each day
- ‘Use it or lose it’ model – All vaccines must be used as soon as possible
- Dr. Avula is leading vaccination efforts
- Expanded priority groups – k-12 teachers & child care workers in the next priority groups after Group A
- Elevating the Virginia National Guard – to provide logistical support

COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Groups
- Group A – Health care personnel, long-term care facilities (500,000 people)
- Group B – First responders, child care and K-12 teachers, front line essential workers in manufacturing, food and grocery, transit, and postal, adults age 75+ (1.2 million people)
- Group C – Essential workers in construction, transportation, food service, utilities, etc., adults age 65+, people age 16-64 with high-risk medical conditions (4.3 million people)
