The South Korean chemical tanker vessel ‘MT Hankuk Chemi’ was seized by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy in the Persian Gulf today due to violating environmental protocols.
South Korea demanded the vessel’s immediate release. South Korea also dispatched its anti-piracy special forces, Cheonghae Unit to the location.
MT Hankuk Chemi was carrying 7,200 tons of oil-based chemicals and been traveling from Saudi Arabia to the United Arab Emirates.
Update: the ship is no anchored near Iranian port of Bandar Abbas, and the entire crew has been arrested.
