The Personal Property Tax Relief Act of 1998 (PPTRA) provides tax relief for vehicles locally registered within the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Alexandria

  • 100% relief on personal Use Vehicles assessed at $5,000 or less
  • 52% relief on personal Use Vehicles assessed at $5,001 – $20,000
  • 27% relief on the first $20,000 of assessed value, Personal Use Vehicles assessed at $20,001 – $25,000
  • 14% relief on the first $20,000 of assessed value, Personal Use Vehicles assessed above $25,000

Arlington County

  • A 100 percent tax relief on the first $3,000 of the vehicle’s value
  • A 24 percent tax relief on the next $17,000 of the vehicles value, from $3,001-$20,000
