Summer Residential Governor’s School (SRGS) offer intensive educational opportunities for high school juniors and seniors in various areas, such as visual and performing arts, humanities, mathematics, science, technology, marine science or engineering.

What is SRGS?

Each Summer Residential Governor’s School focuses on a specific area of interest. Students get the chance to reside on a college or university campus for up to four weeks during the summer. Throughout their stay, students engage in classroom activities, laboratory work, field studies, research projects (both individual and group-based), performances and seminars led by renowned scholars, visiting artists and professionals from different fields. In the mentorship program, students are selected to work alongside research scientists, physicians and other experts. A director and a dedicated student life staff provide round-the-clock supervision throughout the program.

Student Nominations

Students can be nominated for the Visual and Performing Arts Summer Residential Governors School, by teachers, school counselors, peers or even themselves. A committee at the school or division level is responsible for selecting the nominees and forwarding their names to a state committee. When considering candidates factors such as records, test scores, extracurricular activities, honors and awards creativity original essays and teacher recommendations are taken into account. For students applying to the program in visual and performing arts specifically there is an adjudication process where they showcase their talents through auditions or portfolio presentations. However, due to limited placements available not all nominated students can be accepted into the program.

2024 SRGS Admission Process

To be eligible for admission to an academic or Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) Governors School (SRGS), students must follow the instructions provided by the school district. The district will send you information via email or the preferred communication channels they use.

But in general, students will have to complete the 3 steps to be considered

  1. Complete the interest form – will be provided by the district, if not, contact your school.
  2. Attend an interest meeting – check with your school.
  3. Complete the SRGS application form for the specific program
